- RESEARCH
- Interests:
- Dr. Baram's research has focused on seizures and epilepsies of infants and children, as well as on
stress-evoked neuroplasticity of the developing brain.
Dr. Baram's research on seizures and epilepsies of infants and children is centered on Febrile Seizures and Infantile Spasms.
Creating suitable immature animal models for these seizures, Dr. Baram's work has led to important discoveries
about the mechanisms of Infantile Spasms, and about the long-lasting functional effects of experimental prolonged
Febrile Seizures on the developing brain.
A second focus in the Baram lab centers on defining the molecular mechanisms by which the developing brain responds
to stress, and of the long-term consequences of early-life stress.
Visit the Anatomy & Neurobiology Department for an
in-depth look at Dr. Baram's research.
- SELECTED PUBLICATIONS
- Dr. Baram's work (over 100 peer-reviewed papers) has been published in top journals, including
the Journal of Neuroscience, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Trends in the Neurosciences, and Nature Medicine.
She is also co-editor (with Dr. Shinnar) of a popular book on Febrile Seizures.
